Vive To Host Open House; Invites Community

Will Kick off Vive in a Box initiative

Who:                     Vive, the nation’s largest refugee center

What:                  Invites the community for a tour and open house celebration to showcase the agency, meet refugees and learn about the Vive in a Box initiative.

The Vive in a Box initiative is a way for folks to connect with Vive’s mission—and refugees—by hosting a party in their homes, with their friends.

When:                  Saturday, June 1st, 2013

                                2:00 pm-5:00 pm

Where:                 50 Wyoming Ave, Buffalo 14215

Why:                     Few people know that the nation’s largest refugee center is on the East Side of Buffalo. Vive typically houses and serves 100 refugees at any given time.

People want to get involved and/or volunteer. This Open House and this initiative give them a chance to do just that.

It has been a great few days for us at Vive. We had help from two different groups of volunteers. The folks from Keller Williams Realty painted and built shelves for us, and the folks from the Yale Alumni Club created raised bed gardens for our property. We are lucky to have such community support. If you are looking for volunteer opportunities, call us 892-4354.

It's a beautiful day...and a great day to think about the brave men and women who have come to stay at Vive. We have over 100 people now, with 35 kids. Since we have so many young people--and have had several babies born lately--we are trying to set up a Nursery. We are looking for donations, so if you have anything let us know!

Has anyone ever been in technological limbo? That is the way it has been for us with some things at Vive--like getting into this blog! Well, finally it is all working out and we can start once again, regularly sharing about our life at Vive.

The kids all enjoyed playing outside yesterday. The Buffalo News even came and took a picture that they prominently posted in today's edition. It is always amazing that no matter how many languages our families and children here speak--the language of kids at play is all the same.
